ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DRAWING   (Ages 6-10)

Though we've all been drawing since we were old enough to hold a crayon, there is actually a great deal to learn when it comes to sketching form and giving a  visual depth to the illustration.  The foundational skills of drawing are taught in this class:  sketching, shading, cross-hatching, highlighting, perspective and much, much more.  Students will use pencil, charcoal and ink to produce pieces which focus on nature, still life and the human body.

This is a great class to take if you love fashion trends and style!   Students will learn about the ever-popular fashion industry – what it takes to make a mark on it and what it takes to market what you make!  Specific instruction is given for drawing model form and fashion design. Fundamental sketching techniques are taught with an emphasis on illustration of fluid movement of figure and fabric.  Students learn about textiles, color and shape.  “Designers” will ultimately create their own illustrated line of apparel.  Not only will designers create their own portfolio but they will also design their own logo while they learn about corporate identity and branding in the fashion industry.  Each student will create the floor plan as well as the interior design of their own fashion boutique!  It’s an in-depth crash course in fashion design and marketing sure to appeal to the trend-setting creative mind!

Children are natural storytellers!  This motivating class guides students in story-line plot development, round table discussion and essay formatting.  Once the ideas emerge and are brought together in story form, students will learn the art of story-line illustration.  Tapping into the creative mind and drawing out the images which best tell the tale allows the author illustrator opportunity for concentrated objectivity and artful flair!  The finished products will be a wonderfully satisfying accomplishment!

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN   (Ages 6-10)

Young engineers and architects-to-be will want to jump right into this fast paced introduction to perspective drawing and structural design.  Beginning with a state-of-the-art tree house, and "building" up to other more challenging designs, participants will learn how to put on paper the plans for structural development, including the architectural details required for each project.  Drafting tables, drafting tools, measuring and graphing will enhance the experience of the student-designer as they create architectural masterpieces!

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL VIRGINIA FOLK ART  (Ages 6-10)

Beloved for its simplicity, folk art captures the imagination and tells a story through its one-dimensional, frequently colorful, form and style.  Children will study the works of well-known folk art painters noticing the seemingly "flat" images, color palettes and brush stroke styles.  They will learn how to create their own acrylic paintings depicting the essence of life in Virginia.  This is a special THREE WEEK class where students will create three paintings; one will be an old-time country scene, one will be a scene from a natural setting in the State and one will be a present-day scene of the student's choice.  How exciting!

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PAINTING ON GLASS   (Ages 6-10)

Painting on a silken, slippery surface successfully requires certain techniques and a delicate application process.  Children will learn the "how to's" and dive right in to this fun experience!  Just in time for holiday gift-giving, these one-of-a-kind treasures will be keepsakes, for sure!  This is a special THREE WEEK class, and students will create three pieces in that time; one on glass, one on stoneware and one on ceramic tile.

MIDDLE SCHOOL ART CLASS

Tweens will love this high-energy, edgy class where every week offers a hands-on powerhouse of activity and enthusiastic motivation.  Using a tremendous variety of materials, students will paint, mold, sculpt, print, etch, dye, carve, weave and so much more - but most importantly, tweens will completely absorb the pure pleasure derived from breaking free and watching as their own personal style emerges and takes form!  Their conceptual ability, their imaginative resourcefulness and their individual talents will soar - and so will their self-esteem!

MIDDLE SCHOOL OILS ON CANVAS (Ages 10 to 13)

Students will spend the first week being introduced to oil paints, setting up the palette, mixing colors and learning about application techniques.  The first three weeks of class will involve the development and completion of their first oil painting on stretched canvas.  In the remaining two weeks they will create a second canvas incorporating all of the techniques learned as well as modeling paste for texture and design enhancement.  This is a crash course in the art of oil painting which is sure to ignite and inspire the young artist!
